Today marks the unofficial start of the Christmas shopping season, with the day after Thanksgiving being designated as Black Friday. That will be followed in three days by Cyber Monday, when we are encouraged to sit around in our pajamas and shop online.

Almost 116 million consumers planned to, or were considering shopping on Black Friday this year, according to a National Retail Federation survey. Two-thirds of people surveyed said the deals were “too good to pass up,” while 26 percent cited tradition.

Museum Store Sunday fills shopping gap no one knew they had
The day's motto is “Be a Patron,” which urges museum-goers to shop in support of museums and their missions. So far, more than 600 museums from three continents, 10 countries, and all 50 states and D.C. are slated to be part of Museum Store Sunday.
